Really nice stay at Komodor!
2010-02-07

I just returned from a lovely stay at Hotel Komodor in Dubrovnik. First of all, I agree that the room had a lot to do with the quality of my experience. We were on the top (third floor) with a view of the sea. I was thrilled! It was a beautiful view and our small terrace had a table and chairs for relaxing and enjoying the view. The room was small but comfortable (except for the bed! Ugh!) with a little but powerful shower and lots of space for hanging things. The hotel staff were great and can help with selling you public bus tickets, exchanging currency, and recommending restaurants. Everyone was so nice. I found the breakfast to be quite good. No complaints here. I would have to say my only complaints are once again, bad mattress on the beds, lame blowdryer (bring your own), and a bit of a problem hearing our neighbors voices. Not much wall insulation I guess. I had earplugs so it was not much of a big deal. If I had the same room, I would stay here again in a heartbeat. Great location and a pleasant stay!

Got off to a bad start then made up for it

When I was shown to my room after arriving late at night, I went into an immediate depression. The room was absolutely tiny (admittedly I did book a single) and resembled a prison cell. The window was so high up the wall that I couldn't reach it and I'm 6ft. The shower room was also tiny and the shower very flimsy.

When I complained the next day, they moved me to a much nicer room on the top floor which had a niceish view. Although I couldn't walk around the room properly because of the angle of the ceiling (roof).

Walking around the hotel I could see that there were reasonable rooms to be had but I must have got a bit of a raw deal. The pool's not bad and the staff were very friendly.

Some parts of the hotel reminded me of a Russian communist hotel, eg the breakfast room so I completely avoided it.

All in all, not a bad place if you get a decent room. But certainly not what I would call a luxury hotel. Then again, there aren't many in Dubrovnik.
