Hotel Ariston

Luxury Hotels
Hotel Ariston is located directly on the coastline of the Lapad peninsular on Babin Kuk. The hotel is well connected to the Old City of Dubrovnik, which is only 5 kilometres away, and surrounded by the crystal clear Adriatic Sea on one side and a rich Mediterranean forest to the other. Hotel Ariston is a great for those seeking a peaceful holiday in a resort not far away from the centre.

The hotel has 115 modern and functional rooms of which 62 have a lovely view over the sea. All rooms are air-conditioned, have Internet connection, satellite TV and a mini-bar. Guests to Hotel Ariston have the choice of two restaurants, the buffet restaurant “Mediteraneo” and the a la carte restaurant “Zoe”. There are also three bars – aperitif, beach and lounge bar. For those whose idea of a holiday is not just relaxing Hotel Ariston has a beach which for the last few years has been awarded the “Blue Flag” for cleanliness and quality.

After exercising in the fitness centre you can unwind in the hotel’s sauna or take a massage in the spa centre. If you choose Hotel Ariston for your next congress or seminar there are conference halls at your disposal. The largest of which, “Coral”, has a capacity for 240 participants in a “theatre” style seating arrangement or 120 in a “workshop” style arrangement. Hotel Ariston is open throughout the whole year.

Far from the Old Town

My AAA travel agent booked me at the Hotel Ariston in Dubrovnik (part of the Importanne Resort complex). While I was generally pleased with the hotel, the location was a little on the far side from the Old Town -- definitely NOT walking distance, and a 15 to 20 minute city bus ride or 5 to 10 minute cab ride.

The hotel itself is actually quite modern, because I learned that it was totally gutted and burned during the siege of Dubrovnik in the early 1990's. The lobby was quite modern and chic with lots of seating and a computer area with free internet access.

I had read that the people of Dubrovnik aren't quite as in love with life as they were before the war in the 1990's, and I could feel that. I won't hold any of that against them. I've not been through what they have been through and can't imagine what that time must have been like. I found the people to be friendly enough and helpful, but melancholy.

The one problem that I had (which was quickly remedied) was that the first room that I was given -- well, the carpet was soaking wet. (It was VERY rainy and stormy outside and water had been driven in somehow.) Within five minutes I had another room with dry carpet but a slight musty smell. It was fine though and never noticed the smell anymore after I got used to it.

The bathroom was large and modern, and the bed was comfortable. My favorite part was the patio looking over the stormy and choppy Adriatic Sea. I loved that.

Breakfast in the morning was good -- another European style buffet breakfast, which I love. The coffee was pretty bad, and the scrambled eggs were runny, but I liked everything else.

There are places to stay closer to the Old City, but they are costly if you want a true hotel -- more than twice the price or higher. I would suggest a "sobe" which is a private room in a house. It is a thriving business in Croatia. Please see my review for "Villa Ragusa" which is where I stayed for my 3rd night in Dubrovnik.

What a view

As others have stated on the site, we were upgraded on arrival from the Neptun to the Ariston. What a great start to the holiday, and thanks to the hotel, who didn't make a big deal of it. >>> more
