Dubrovnik offers all types of different beaches from rock, sand and pebble. Most locals prefer to swim on either rocks or pebbles as they don’t like the thought of getting sand everywhere. Sandy beaches are much rarer and tend to be hidden away on islands or in difficult to reach coves and bays.
One superb sandy beach is on the island of Lopud. The beach is called Šunj and the sea is always warm because it very slowly gets deeper and it is possible to walk out 100 meters before the water covers you. On the island of Kolocep is also another sandy beach located in the small bay as you enter the island by boat. Banje – The city beach a stones throw from the city walls. Has café bar and restaurant as well as an area with sun beds and waiter service. Also in the evening a night club “East – West” club. Buza – Rocky beach situated below the city walls. Also has a café, popular with locals of the Old City. No real beach just deep water. Not for poor swimmers. Copacabana – Family beach with pebbles. Close to many hotels on the Babin Kuk peninsular so can be busy in the summer. Various amenities like jet ski, water slide and diving. Sv. Jakov – Offers great views of the city especially good in the late afternoon. Lots of steps to get to the beach but well worth the track. Dance – Rock beach popular with locals. Again deep water, but has ladders to enter. Neptun – Rock beach with swimming pool. Close to restaurant and bars. President – Pebble beach with good contents and sun beds. Guests of the hotel can use for free but visitors have to pay a nominal fee. Bellevue – Pebble beach in shade in the afternoon. Lapad beaches – Lots of content, bars and restaurants. Tend to be crowded. In walking distance of about ten hotels so lots of cafes and also lovely walks nearby.
