25.04.2008. // 13:23
On April 30th and May 01st, Dubrovnik will host two exceptional concerts named Rachlin & Golan play Beethoven – 10 violin sonatas.
These two musical delicacies will be performed in the St. Ignatius church at 8 pm. We invite you to enjoy the music played by Julian Rachlin, known as one of the most charismatic and exciting violinists of his generation and Itamar Golan, one of the most sought after pianists of his generation, playing on the most prestigious stages around the world. It is interesting that both musicians were born in Lithuania, but Itamar Golan and his family immigrated to Israel when he was a year old. There he started his musical studies. Julian Rachlin immigrated with his parents to Austria when he was four. He studied at the Vienna Conservatory. Today, both of them are among most prominent musicians of their generation. Since September 1999, Mr. Rachlin has been on the faculty at the Vienna Conservatory. It is interesting to mention that Julian Rachlin plays the 1741 "ex Carrodus" Guarnerius del Gesů violin, on loan to him courtesy of the Austrian National Bank. In 1991, Itamar Golan was nominated to the faculty of the Manhattan School of Music, making him one of their youngest teachers ever. Since 1994, he has taught chamber music at the Paris Conservatory. He resides in Paris, where he is involved in many different artistic projects. Festival of chamber music “Julian Rachlin and friends” has been held from the year 2001. The sole idea about the festival was born a year before, when maestro Rachlin performed at Dubrovnik Summer festival. Maestro fell in love with Dubrovnik at first sight and created in his mind an idea about the summer music festival located inside unique historical center, the most beautiful music stage. He invited his friends who were, equally as he was, enchanted by Dubrovnik. Today, seven years after, some of the world’s most prominent musicians come as guests of the festival - cellist Mischa Maisky, pianist Itamar Golan, violinist Janine Jansen, horn player Radovan Vlatković and many other who reserve beginning of September for Dubrovnik and festival Julian Rachlin and friends. In the past seven-year period, Festival “Julian Rachlin and friends” has become inescapable music and cultural event on the map of Europe. Source: Dubrovnik Tourist Board
