BEWARE OF THE WINE AT THE RADISSON BLU RESORT DUBROVNIK
2010-02-06

Beware of the wine at the Radisson Blu Resort Dubrovnik.
The weeks holiday we booked with Citiescapes included half board at the Radisson.
We dined each night in the Hotels main restaurant The Origano. The food was fine but the wine is another story.
The wine list included wine from 18 to 45 per bottle. They never had our first choice or second choice once they had our third choice other times our fourth or fifth choice. However each time they enthusiastically recommended the dearest wine on the list. On two occasions we were on our main course before the wine arrived. They would look for our first and second choice and then arrive back with the bad news. Then they would go back and look for our third and fourth choice and so on. They appeared to have no idea what wine was in the seller. Now we were not talking about wine from Chile or Australia, we are talking about the local Croatian wine.
Basil Fawlty and Manuel would have fitted very nicely into this hotel.

The food was excellent, a great choice for buffet breakfast and a varied evening meal.

The Hotel itself is fabulous and is situated 7 miles from the old town. The bedroom was spacious and contemporary with stunning views overlooking the Elaphite islands.
The Staff were very friendly and spoke excellent English.
In the Business Centre we had free access to broadband during the daytime.

The Hotel operates a mini bus into and out of the Old Town. The bus ran on time every time.

The Old Town of Dubrovnik must be seen to be appreciated. Walk the Old City Walls to get a real feel of the place. Visit St Blaises Church, the Cathedrol and its Treasury, and the lovely old harbour. Off the main Place are dozens of small laneways full of small interesting shops. But above all sit in Luza Square facing the City Bell Tower with a glass of wine and watch the world go by.

The duty free shop at Dubrovnik Airport has some very good value in spirits.
Gordons Gin 10 per litre and Jameson for 12 per litre.

Apart from the hassel with the wine we had a fabulous holiday.

Big problems with access to Dubrovnik, seaviews, food and practical room facilities
2010-02-06

A poor experience and not a credit to the Radisson name. Location and access to Dubrovnik a real problem, plus issues over seaviews, poor food (poor vegetables, and hopeless for vegetarians, gluten-free and other special diets), and practical room facilities. To start with the few positives. The staff are very pleasant but so are nearly all Croatians, so that doesnt distinguish the hotel. The rooms are large, clean and modern, but have lots of practical problems see below. But there are some real problems which we didnt believe were teething problems. >>> more

Beautiful hotel and grounds
2010-02-06

We went in mid-September and really enjoyed our stay. There were still some bumps, hopefully that will improve with time. Although the weather was still warm and sunny, it appeared to already be low-season when we went. >>> more
