Hotel Splendid

Three Star Hotels
Hotel Splendid, located on the Lapad peninsular, offers guests numerous possibilities both for active holidays and relaxing breaks. Encompassed by Mediterranean gardens and glorious beaches the hotel has a pleasant ambience and combined with the friendly and warm staff this all adds up to make Dubrovnik and Hotel Splendid unforgettable.

The hotel is just 4 kilometres from the ancient Old City and is well connected by a local bus service. In fact the sheer location, one of the nicest in Dubrovnik, offers guests to Hotel Splendid a perfect spot far enough from the hustle and bustle of the summer months to relax but close enough to see and experience everything Dubrovnik has to offer. Apart from the hotel’s beach and tennis court, there is also an a la carte restaurant, “Glorijet”, where one can experience gourmet food with a unique view over the Adriatic Sea and islands.

In close vicinity of the Hotel Splendid is the Bay of Lapad, which has an abundance of recreational activities such as beach volleyball, children’s fun park and water sports. In the evening you can choose from one of the many cafés or restaurants. For lovers of romantic strolls there is a nearby path by the sea as well as a walk through the forest in the park of Petka. For the more active minded why not jog around the coastline. Hotel Splendid has a total of 59 rooms and offers good service for a peaceful holiday with children or for those looking to get to know Dubrovnik in a smaller, more relaxed and comfortable pace.

not super, but definitely splendid!

Spent 4 nights here. Very relaxing. Had a clean and ?recently refurbished room with small terrace and fabulous view. Wonderful to have breakfast on the terrace.
There's a paved area by the sea, with lovely crystal clear water for swimming. No real beach though. Hotel charges you for sun loungers, towels and umbrellas - about 70kn for 2, which I think should have been included in price for guests.
Staff are all very friendly - and seem to work 24/7! This is a quiet hotel, so if you are looking for a party spot this is not the place to stay! Also at present there is some building work going on across the bay, though it's not too troublesome - but if you had paid to stay at Hotel More you would not be too happy!
Easy to get into town on the bus - stops just outside the hotel. Great to get you away from the coachloads / cruiseloads of tourists in the Old Town.
BTW - food in the Old Town is dreadful..........cannot in anyway explain just how awful the Old Town can be! It is very pretty and historical - but it is absolutely mobbed with tourists and any number of 'restauranteurs' who don't care what they put on the plate, because they know they don't need to - so many people just passing through so why make the effort for return trade?
We did see the excellent Time Out review for 'Wanda' - DON'T BE FOOLED!!!! I chose the salmon with raspberry vinigraitte - as per Time Out review..............the salmon must have been reheated / recooked about 3 times. I could have soled my shoes with it! And the raspberry vinigraitte.............with dried salmon??????????Yuch!!!
If they offer you the 'special' starter - courgette flowers, stuffed with shrimp and cheese............DON'T! They don't tell you it costs 90kn, which would be OK if they hadn't deep fried them to a crisp!
But the wine was lovely! (75kn a glass though!!)
Definitely avoid Wandas, take your chances with the pasta and pizza places- all much of a muchness - noithing original.
There are some flashier fish places - Proto, Nautica - pricey, but food may be better (didn't try them)
Gils..........menu is way over priced for 'fusion food' that seems to be trying way too hard. Worth going to bar for a cocktail - though staff are pretentious.
Best place is Buza bar - up behind the walls on the sea side. There are 2. Only tried the smaller one - it was super - definitely go here - but don't drink too much or you may fall in! and you'll need to leave to find a toilet.
Sorry - have gone a little off track! Would recommend Hotel Splendid! (but didn't eat there so can't comment on their food!!)
There is a a line of bars and restaurants between Lapad and Old Town - you can see them from the bus. Belvedere - had lovely fish there. And the bars on the other side and up a bit are lively and classy. You can walk from Splendid in 20 - 25 mins (or get no 4 bus)
OK - I've finally finished! Enjoy your stay.

We had sea view and balcony, which was excellent. The hotel is right on the shore, there's no pool, if you want to swim, dive straight into sea. >>> more
