Very peaceful, well run.
2010-02-06

Just returned from a week at the Hotel Uvala. We had a very pleasant stay. The hotel is set back overlooking Lapad bay, with a short walk to the pebble beach. There are plenty of bars and restaurants to enjoy. It was not noisy or overcrowded.

The staff are superb, always helpful & service with a smile. Mario the bar man has a fantastic sense of humour! The food at the hotel is buffet style with plenty of selection, each night there is a recommended red/white wine, a good way to sample the local (and very good) wine. Breakfast again buffet with the usual selection of hot & cold food. The ony thing that I felt was missing was that there is no tea/coffee facilities in the room.

There is a very well equipped wellness centre at the hotel, we indulged in a very good (and reasonably priced) massage. There are also 2 swimming pools, 1 indoor, 1 outdoor, both quite cold, but very refreshing to cool off. The only down side is that the sun terrace is over the road and there is a bus stop below, so you do get the fumes rising from the busses (only a minor problem).

As mentioned the bus stop is directly outside the hotel, the regular bus service takes you into Dubrovnik, which - in my opinion - is stunning, no more needs to be said. There is also a lovely walk around the bay with lots of steps down to the sea so you can sit on the rocks and sunbathe.

We booked a boat trip to the islands through one of the stands in the main street at Lapad bay, great day out, again reasonably priced with lunch & drinks included. We also booked a 4 x 4 driving trip through our tour operator, we did double up with another couple, but this again was a good day out if you want to see 'a bit more'. We stopped off at a flour mill & lunch was included.

All in all, an excellent & reasonably priced holiday, very relaxing, shame about the weather, we had a lot of rain, but when the sun came out it was hot.

If you are looking for a holiday with nightlife, this is not the place to come, if you are looking for a place that you can chill out, unwind & enjoy good food, wine & culture, this is a must. Looking forward to coming back soon.

Serene stay at Hotel Uvala

As soon as we arrived at this hotel I felt right at home. Having a late check-in I was a bit nervous as to the reception we would receive, however when I saw the smiling assistant behind the front counter, I knew we had chosen the right hotel. >>> more

Quiet Hotel, with helpful staff and fabulous views across Lapad Bay. 2010-02-06

Booked hotel for first three nights of our holiday in Croatia, on hotels.com, paid L2 per day supplement for sea view, most of the rooms in the hotel do have a good view, however, as we had paid the supplement, we were upgraded to a superior room, with massive balcony and large lounge area. >>> more
